Stretch Out
A Yoga Celeb Hits Town

Looking to take your yoga practice beyond the plastic mat on your living room floor? Head to the Kennedy Center, where starting April 8, Georgetown Yoga will offer a weekend workshop led by master practitioner Beryl Bender Birch (above). The best-selling author of "Power Yoga" stands out from the crowded field of trendy exercise gurus: She was teaching sun salutations back when Hall & Oates topped the charts, and she's credited with popularizing -- yep, you guessed it -- power yoga, which marries a fast-paced workout with traditional stretches. Birch will teach four Ashtanga classes, each geared at improving different aspects of alignment and breathing -- all you need is your own mat and a grasp of yoga basics.
