Georgetown Yoga recognizes the power of being inspired by people
who have dedicated their lives to yoga. Since our opening in fall
2002, we have been honored to host incredible teachers in
Washington, D.C.

Georgetown Yoga welcomed
Beryl Bender Birch
at the Kennedy Center in April, 2005.
The best selling author of
Power Yoga
and
Beyond Power Yoga,
Beryl
teaches
throughout the United States, guiding and inspiring students of
all levels with her down to earth style. She has been teaching yoga for over 30 years,
training yoga teachers for 20 years, and in 2000, was named one of the seven American women
"innovators shaping yoga today" by
Yoga Journal. Her
latest video "Power Yoga The
Practice" captures her "yoga by example" manner
and makes it accessible to all. Visit Beryl's website at
www.power-yoga.com.
Beryl will be returning to GY June 6 & 7, 2008.
 Sharon
Gannon and David Life are the founders of the Jivamukti
Yoga Center in New York City. Jivamukti Yoga is one of nine
internationally recognized styles of Hatha Yoga; its distinct style
integrates chanting, asanas, music, meditation and practices of
devotion
into a vigorous physical practice with a foundation in the
mystic philosophies of the East. These artists and spiritual gurus
have spent almost twenty years of their lives in service to yogic
principles, and have introduced thousands of people to the benefits
of yoga - "Without Jivamukti, yoga in the U.S. would still be the
obscure practice of a few devotees" (New York Times).
Sharon and David
have authored two books, Jivamukti Yoga and The Art of Yoga.
Georgetown Yoga hosted them for a workshop and book signing in
January 2003.

Manju
Jois, son of the Guru of Ashtanga yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, teaches
the true Mysore Ashtanga method.
Manju is dedicated to his mission of training students in this ancient style
of yoga, which is a combination of the asanas, pranayamas, and meditation
chants for a total mind-body-spirit unification with self and God. The
asanas, or postures, are just one component of the yoga tradition. Manju is
bringing back to yoga the other components that are essential to assist
those on the path to Enlightenment: chants, which help with breathing;
meditation, which relaxes the body and the mind; and pranayamas, which
assist with purification. Manju is honored to pass along all of the
traditional components of yoga to his students, as he encourages them,
"unite with yourself". Georgetown Yoga hosted Manju for a weekend workshop
in September, 2003. Click here for Manju's

Kino MacGregor is
directly authorized to teach Ashtanga yoga by its founder Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois. She is one the youngest women to complete the Third
Series with Guruji and Sharath in Mysore, India. Traveling
internationally, she leads classes, privates, workshops and retreats in
traditional Ashtanga yoga, holistic health and total life
transformation.
Kino is dedicated to sharing the amazing tradition of Ashtanga yoga with
its growing number of practitioners. As a life coach and Ph.D. student in
holistic health, with a Master’s Degree from New York University, Kino
integrates her commitment to consciousness and empowerment with her yoga
teaching. In her unique, inspirational and playful approach, Kino helps
her students expand and deepen their understanding of yoga and life, and
the inseparable connection between asana practice and daily life.
GY
hosted a weekend with Kino in May 2006 & 2007. Kino will return to GY
in
May 2008.

Dave
Oliver is the leading instructor for Ashtanga
Yoga in the Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona area. He makes the practice of Ashtanga a
journey of the mind and body, incorporating the philosophy of yoga and
the study of Sanskrit into the asana practice, so students have a better
understanding of the "big picture" behind what they are doing. Dave has
taught workshops around the country and is an instructor at
At One Yoga
in Phoenix. His intense Ashtanga classes are
inspired by 15 years of studying Sanskrit, meditation, and a
life-changing yoga practice. Having grown up on the coast of Los Angeles
as a beach boy, playing volleyball is a favorite hobby of Dave's.
However, a back injury while playing a volleyball game motivated him to
take his first step into the world of yoga. Dave believes that yoga is a
healer of all wounds and it keeps him feeling young and healthy. His
unique and invigorating Ashtanga classes are a great workout and a
powerful tool to remedy all physical and mental disease. Georgetown Yoga
hosted an Ashtanga weekend intensive with Dave in July 2004 and
September 2006.
Doug Swenson travels extensively offering workshops, retreats
and teacher training courses around the world. Doug teaches by
example - he has been a dedicated yoga practitioner for three
decades. He has had the fortune
of studying with many great teachers including Dr. Ernest Wood, K. Pattabhi Jois, David Williams, Nancy Gilgoff, Ramanand Patel, Ann
Barros and others. Doug is a master yoga practitioner, philosopher,
poet and dedicated health advocate. He has incorporated influences
from several different yoga systems along with his passion for
nutrition and the environment to develop his unique approach. Over
the years he has authored several books: Yoga Helps (one of
the first yoga books in the U.S.!), The Soothing
Touch of Yoga, The Diet That Loves You Most, and Power
Yoga for Dummies. Georgetown Yoga hosted Doug for an evening workshop in
September 2002, a weekend workshop in April 2003, and
in January 2004 as part of our
teacher training program and to introduce his new book,
Mastering the Secrets of Yoga Flow.
