Mind
The Body
Yoga's Physical Approach to Happiness
Why does alignment matter?
Science is proving what yoga has always taught: that the mind and
the body are two parts of the same thing. By learning to safely and
effectively make the body strong, open and healthy, the mind is sure
to follow.
Join us for a special weekend of yoga
this fall with James Brown, who taught our very first
Yoga Works
Teacher Training program in summer 2006. We highly
recommend this weekend for prospective applicants for the January
2008 Yoga Works program: James will hold a brief Q&A session on
10/28 following the restorative workshop.
Friday, October 26, 6-8 pm - $50There is a common misconception that yogis should not have
goals. While being content with things as they are does bring
joy, contentment doesn't mean we stop working. In this session, we
will set the common goal of learning how, when, and why to navigate
through perceived physical limitations. To do so, we'll approach the
asanas Vrschikasana (scorpion) and Eka Pada Raja
Kapotasana (King Pigeon). Whether or not we "get there" doesn't
matter: what we find along the way does.Saturday, October 27, Noon-3:30 pm - $50
Sunday, October 28, Noon-3:30 pm - $50
This workshop series is
designed to enhance the understanding of asana for beginning and
intermediate practitioners. We'll start with the basics and use that
foundation to move toward more complex postures in two well-rounded
practices. Modifications and alternatives will be taught as needed.
Sunday, October 28, 4-6 pm - $50
We'll end the weekend with a
long, luxurious, vitality-restoring sequence. To prepare the brain
for deep quiet, we'll go upside down. Participants should be
comfortable holding Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulderstand)
or their alternatives. Then we'll practice simple pranayama before
dropping into some prolonged and satisfying supported restoratives.
